Frequently Asked Questions

Does Stepworks Provide Medical Detox?

Yes, Stepworks is a medical leader in opiate, alcohol, and benzodiazepine detox. No treatment provider can completely remove the discomfort of detox, but our medications and protocols make the process much more comfortable. Our approach helps patients focus on recovery and stay in treatment. We do not use methadone. We do use buprenorphine-naloxone (Suboxone) for patients when appropriate.

Can someone admit for detox treatment only?

Yes. We do accept patients for detox-only treatment. Short-stay detox protocols vary based on the type of substance used prior to entering treatment. Patients who are detoxing from alcohol or benzodiazepines can typically expect to stay 3-7 days, while those detoxing from opiates can expect to stay 11-13 days. Please remember that treatment at Stepworks is individualized and these lengths may vary.

Can Stepworks induce someone on medication-assisted treatment (MAT)?

Yes. The individual medical provider at each Stepworks location will determine if the patient is appropriate for medication-assisted treatment.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

Stepworks also treats various co-occurring mental health conditions like depression and anxiety. (Substance use must be the patient’s primary diagnosis.) Our holistic approach to mental health helps patients achieve better long-term outcomes. Through medication management, group therapy, and individual therapy, we treat the whole person, increasing the likelihood of long-term sobriety.

Are Stepworks programs mixed-gender?

Many of our locations accept both women and men, but we also provide single-gender facilities like the men’s center in London. (At mixed-gender facilities, sleeping areas are separated by gender.)

If I refer someone to Stepworks, can they come back to where they were referred from after completing the Stepworks program?

At Stepworks, we will make every effort to refer them back to you if they choose to return as part of their continuing care plan and if their insurance allows.
