What is an Intensive Outpatient program?

Our intensive outpatient rehab program provides many of the same addiction treatment services as our inpatient or residential program in a non-residential setting. That means that the client continues to live at home while attending treatment sessions throughout the week. We currently offer our intensive outpatient program at our Intensive Health in Elizabethtown, KY.

There are two core components to our intensive outpatient program for addiction:

Group Counseling

Group sessions for IOP are held three times a week for four weeks and provide a variety of addiction services, including addiction education, relapse prevention skills, disease management skills, coping skills, and life skills. Learning healthier behaviors and cognitive skills helps clients transition into sustained recovery.

Individual Therapy

In addition to group, each client will attend one individual therapy session a week. In these weekly meetings, clients get a chance to work one-on-one with our therapists in order to focus on personal behavior change strategies. We emphasize individual treatment plans for continued success after treatment.

Who is an intensive outpatient program for?

Intensive outpatient addiction treatment can be a good fit for different kinds of clients. It might be recommended for clients who have completed a detox program for drug abuse or alcohol abuse but don’t require a longer course of residential treatment. It can be recommended for clients as a form of addiction continuing care once they have completed a residential program. Outpatient rehab can also be recommended as an alternative to residential rehab for people who are unable to attend a residential or inpatient program due to work or family obligations. Although intensive outpatient rehab offers greater flexibility, remember that it still requires a commitment to treatment and a personal investment in change.
