Frequently Asked Questions

Does Stepworks Provide Medical Detox?

Yes, Stepworks is a medical leader in opiate, alcohol, and benzodiazepine detox. No treatment provider can completely remove the discomfort of detox, but our medications and protocols make the process much more comfortable. Our approach helps patients focus on recovery and stay in treatment. We do not use methadone. We do use buprenorphine-naloxone (Suboxone) for patients when appropriate.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

Stepworks also treats various co-occurring mental health conditions like depression and anxiety. (Substance use must be the patient’s primary diagnosis.) Our holistic approach to mental health helps patients achieve better long-term outcomes. Through medication management, group therapy, and individual therapy, we treat the whole person, increasing the likelihood of long-term sobriety.

PICC Line Program

The Stepworks PICC Line program provides residential drug treatment to patients receiving antibiotics through a PICC line or IV. This unique program allows people with infections to get a head start on their recovery. Our qualified medical team administers IV antibiotics and provides 24-hour care to patients.

What happens if a PICC Line patient demands discharge before completing their course of antibiotics?

Patients have the legal right to demand discharge against medical advice. We explain the risks and ask them to sign our AMA (“against medical advice”) consent form. Their PICC line is removed prior to discharge. Under no circumstances do we release a patient with a PICC line in place.

Does Stepworks Accept pregnant women?

Yes. We request approval from an obstetrician. If a patient is beyond 36 weeks pregnant, it is up to the individual medical provider at each Stepworks location to determine if they are appropriate for admission.

Can Stepworks induce a patient on medication-assisted treatment (MAT)?

Yes. The individual medical provider at each Stepworks location will determine if the patient is appropriate for medication-assisted treatment.

Does Stepworks provide transportation?

Stepworks does not provide a dedicated transportation service, but we make every effort to remove transportation as a barrier to treatment. Referring hospital systems often use Medicaid transportation, taxi, or Uber.
